dreams-from-my-father: When a historical moment gets completely ignored 1 February 4th 2012 marked a historical event and a major stepping stone for Blackness. The first Black nation to ever successfully defy white supremacy, became a full member of the African Union - process that was finalized in June 2012 - giving it the political status of African nation just like the 54 other African states. Haiti is a symbol of Black resistance; hence this should have been received as a symbolic moment for Blackness to see the first Black nation to have its Africaneity officially recognized after being kidnapped from Africa centuries ago. This means so much in terms of Pan-Africanism, Black solidarity and forming a united Black front against white supremacy. Haiti is the ultimate symbol of Black unity and it has lived up to the legacy of two of the first Black revolutionaries Jean-Jacques Dessalines and François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture and its motto: “L’Union fait la force” (Unity makes strength / Strength through unity). Haiti did end slavery in the Dominican Republic; Haiti was advocating for the independence of African nations as early as 1945; Haiti protested against Italy invasion of Ethiopia; Haiti provided important support during Algerian and Libyan independences; Haiti also supported the African Democratic Party (RDA: Rassemblement Democratique Africain), a Pan-African organisation behind the wave of independence that swept Africa in 1960. Haiti does indeed stand behind “L’Union fait la force”, so … WELCOME BACK HAITI!! BIENVENUE CHEZ VOUS!! now tell me i aint african now FUCKERS! what what! haha :)
